SYNOPSIS

“Pioneers in Skirts” is a 1-hour documentary that follows director Ashley Maria as she investigates why women face greater obstacles when building their careers.

What began as a search for guidance on navigating career setbacks in the film industry grew into an exploration of working women’s experiences across the United States.

Through personal stories and interviews, “Pioneers in Skirts” sheds light on how seemingly minor slights and obstacles can accumulate over time (starting during childhood), leading girls and women to start to doubt themselves and “re-think” their dreams.

Rather than abandoning an ambition because of a single dramatic event, many women gradually modify their goals after repeated disappointments or a lack of support.
